It has been one of those weeks where the “mommy brain” has been bad. I mean real bad. This is how bad it was… I tried to use NAIL POLISH REMOVER to remove my eye makeup instead of eye makeup remover!!!! Both bottles are blue and apparently I can’t read. Aaahhhh!!! Thankfully my eye is okay. Obviously, I realized mistake very quickly and since my eye was closed I didn’t get very much in my eye. But seriously…. Who does that???? Moms. Moms who are very tired and their brains are on shut down mode. Oh well. It happens. And my amazing husband made sure that I was able to go wedding dress shopping with my little sister. And I can’t tell how much that helped clear my head of “mommy brain.” (Thank you, dear husband!)
Baking helps me clear my head. And baking is something I can’t help but want to do on dark and dreary days, like the ones we have been having recently. Of course, since it’s fall, and so very close to Thanksgiving (Less than TWO weeks! AH!) I want pumpkin and cinnamon. Today’s creation… Pumpkin Banana Bread! And let me just express to you how amazing and addicting and wonderful this bread is. It is moist and full of just the right spices.
This bread is a quick bread. It takes very little time to whip up and get in the oven. Once the bread is in the oven, your house will smell warm, and spice-y, cinnamon-y and inviting. It’s just lovely I tell you, Just lovely! Read more

I LOVE the Holidays! I can’t tell you how much time I have already spent thinking of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and all they delicious food I am going to cook. Not to mention all of my loved ones being around the table together with me. There is something almost magical about those moments spent around the dinner table. I am SOOOO EXCITED!!! And of course, I LOVE to cook! I wanted to share with you my 10 Must Have Kitchen Tools for the Holidays this year. I couldn’t work my magic in the kitchen without them.
1. A Slow Cooker (or two) I use my slow cookers to keep side dishes warm or cook a whole HAM in the crockpot! My stovetop and oven space is limited. The slow cookers free up space so I can make my giant feast even bigger. Read more
There is something almost magical about going to a farm and picking apples right from the tree. The fresh dew on the apples, the crisp air and smells of the orchard, not to mention the freedom to reach above your head and pluck the best looking apple right off the tree makes apple picking a memorable moment.
We recently took the whole family to the Apple Orchard and picked a whole BUSHEL of apples! That’s a LOT of apples my friend! We were able to walk through rows and rows of apple trees. Every couple of rows there was a new variety. Gala, Jonathan, Honeycrisp, and on and on. Read more
It’s that time of year again…. the air is starting to get crisp and everyone is talking about pumpkin spice lattes and apple pies. And I must admit that I have even thought about how in the world I am going to fit everyone at our dining room table for Thanksgiving Dinner in just a few months!
Things have been settling in our home and I am happy we are back to routines. The oldest two have started 2nd grade and Kindergarten. They are in a new school and we are so happy with their new teachers and the learning environment which the staff has worked hard to create. There are still FOUR kids at home during the day… (whew!) So, I am working on keeping them busy in the morning and doing a little celebration if I can get all four to take a nap at the same time in the afternoon!!! (YAY!)
This time of year I get the urge to bake! And bake and bake and BAKE! It’s finally not too hot to have the oven on. Of course, on the top of my list of favorite things to bake is BREAD! Homemade bread is just soooooooo good! If you think making homemade bread is too difficult you are so wrong. Start with an easy quick bread like this one. No kneading or waiting for it to “double in size.” This Dark Chocolate Zucchini bread is a cross between a cake and a bread. I love that it is stuffed full of veggies!
I promise when this bread comes out of the oven you will have to swat away little hands to allow it to cool. Read more
Sometimes you desire a really yummy chocolate cake that you can literally throw into your stand mixer and whip together in a jiffy! Our youngest son turned 3 years old this week (Holy Moly! How did he get sooooo old???) and I needed a birthday cake once again. (Once the end of March hits we have non-stop birthdays around here!) This Chocolate Chip Pound Cake is the perfect cake for chocoholics and the busy mom. Read more
