There are some desserts you just grow up on. You know the ones that trigger all kinds of memories just by the smell when you walk into the kitchen. I can remember my grandmas house smelling of gingersnaps and spices. I am not sure I can even tell you which spices, but it was homey and warm, just like a grandma’s house should be. In my house up the dessert and “smell” we grew up on were these amazing Chocolate Chip Blondies (Brownies). I seem to remember them baking ALL the time. They are the best brownies!!!
Not only are these Chocolate Chip Blondies the best they are so simple and easy to make. I cannot tell you how many of these pans of brownies I have whipped together last minute for company or to take to a picnic. And even more times I put a pan of them in the oven just for myself (okay, and my family too!) This is the dessert my kids are growing up now.
I really have the recipe memorized now, but I still pull out the stained church family cookbook which my mom helped put together just for nostalgia sake. (some day I am going to pass this book on to my kids.)
Of course, the one ingredient in this recipe that I don’t really ever measure is the chocolate chips. Should you really ever measure chocolate? I say “NOT!”
The trick is to under bake these brownies just a tad. That is what will make them nice and gooey. Almost like cookie dough. Which of course is addicting. Which of course is wonderful.
- 2/3 cup Butter
- 2 Tbsp warm Water
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 2 tsp Vanilla
- 2 cups Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 3/4+ cup Chocolate Chips
- In a large mixing bowl combine butter, water, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Add flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder to mixture and stir until well combined. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Bake at 350˚ for 27-35 minutes.
Happy Eating!
