I am crazy about coffee. And there is something about the cold days of Fall and Winter that make me want a hot cup of joe in my hands a little more often. Of course, I would love to be able to stop at my favorite coffee cafe… Starbucks!!! every day but that isn’t realistic on the budget or with 4-6 kids in tow! Instead, I am finding a new way to enjoy some homemade cafe drinks at home. Making homemade lattes are super quick and easy. The first drink I made at home was a Cinnamon Latte. And it has been a favorite since!
Here is my little secret to getting my drink to as close to the cafe experience as possible… A Milk Frother!!! Yep. This little tool turns hot milk into frothy goodness. You can make lattes, cappuccinos, & macchiatos right in your own kitchen. I love that I don’t need a big bulky machine to take up my precious counter space to make a delicious cafe coffee.
Let me show you step-by-step just how EASY this delicious cup of goodness is! Of course, you need coffee. I love my Espresso Pot
from IKEA. It makes the perfect espresso. You can also use your regular coffee maker. Just make extra strong coffee.
I am really into dark coffee these days. My favorite is Kona coffee from Hawaii. It just taste of the islands to me.
While your coffee is brewing. Grab a large coffee mug. Because… let’s be realistic. If you are going to make a copycat coffee drink… You want it as big as possible! (I just recently started pulling out my Christmas decorations and found on of my Christmas mugs. I have had this mug since college!) Pour 1/2 cup of whole milk into the cup and put in the microwave on high for 1 minute.
Once your milk is nice and hot you can start frothing! It’s as simple as turning it on and moving the vibrating whisk up and down in your milk. I turn the cup a little sideways to incorporate more air into the milk and create a thicker froth.
Stop and add in some ground cinnamon and sugar to taste. I like that I can control the sugar in my cup at home. Sometimes those coffee drink I buy from the cafe are LOADED with sugar! I use a teaspoon or so. Stick the milk frother back in the cup and whip the cinnamon and sugar and milk until well incorporated and frothy.
Once your milk is nice and frothy pour in your hot coffee or espresso. Again. The beauty of making this drink at home is you can customize it completely to your hearts desire! I went for a double shot today. Because it’s Thursday. And the kids only took an hour nap today. Which isn’t long enough for them and I didn’t get a chance to get anything done!
And that my friends is it! Nothing else to do, but to curl up in your favorite chair and sip on this wonderful cinnamon latte. And that is pure bliss.
1/2 cup Hot Milk
1/8 tsp ground Cinnamon
1-2 tsp Sugar (or to taste)
6-8 oz. Strong Coffee or Espresso
Aaaaahhhhh…. Only thing that could make this cup of coffee any more perfect was if my Christmas tree was up and decorated. And maybe the kids taking a longer nap. And possibly the laundry being done….And someone else mopping the floors… But, let’s not think about that. Just enjoy the moment. And appreciate the fact that you just save $5!
