I am pretty sure that Costco and SAMS Club love us as much as we love them! We have quite a big family to feed, cloth, and keep entertained. There are a few very important things to me when it comes to shopping for my family….good quality, good price, and lots of options. We have had a SAMS Club membership for 8 years and a Costco membership for 3 years. It is worth the membership fee for our family! These are the reasons why we love shopping at Costco and SAMS Club.
1. The Large Shopping Carts
Especially since the twins came into our lives, the two seater carts at Costco and SAMS are AMAZING!!!! Seriously! Why doesn’t every store have the double seater shopping carts available? You should see the looks I get when I have to take the kids shopping by myself and I am pushing one cart with a baby and pulling another with a baby. We get funny looks at our large entourage no matter what, but that’s okay with me when I have my big double seater shopping cart!
2. The MEAT!
We are ALL about meat in our house! Jon is big on a high protein diet for his weight training, and of course, since daddy eats meat, we must all eat meat and LOTS of it! Costco and SAMS club meat haven’t disappointed me yet. They have great, consistently low prices. Every time I go to Costco ground beef 90/10 is $3.67 per pound. I can’t beat that price anywhere else! We buy frozen chicken tenders, roasts, ground turkey, and chicken thighs as well.
3. The Snacks
Listen people. I have SIX kids. If each one of them have one snack a day over a seven day period…that is 42 snacks! And of course, they don’t just have one snack a day. I mean… a box of 10 fruit snacks from Meijer doesn’t last two days in our house. Buying snacks in bulk makes sense in our house. I am careful to watch prices. Because sometimes those snacks can be expensive.
5. The Pantry Staples
I try my best to make a lot of things from scratch from my pantry staples. Butter, sugar, flour, seasonings, and other baking essentials are consistently quite a bit cheaper. Granted, you do have to buy in bulk. So if you are not a baker 10 lbs of flour probably is not a good buy! I also buy coffee in bulk and half n half which is 1/2 the price then at the regular grocery store.
6. The Wide Open Isles and a Cafe
We really love taking the whole family on our trips to Costco and SAMS. There are wide isles in the store which leave plenty of room for the boys to walk (or run) beside our shopping carts. I am not as worried that they will be in the way or pent up in small isles like a normal grocery store. Both SAMS and Costco have a cafe in their stores. We can feed the whole family for less than $25! It’s awesome. Their pizzas are really great and you can’t beat the price for a hot dog and drink at $1.50!
7. Gas
The price of gas at these stores with your membership card is totally worth it! You can save up to $.30 a gallon! It’s great for us with a truck and SUV to fill up. We try to time our trips to these stores around our need to fill up with gas.
We laugh when we get home from our trip to Costco or SAMS because our kitchen becomes a chaotic mess of food and boxes. It is very much worth it! It saves our family money and it saves my sanity! I love having our home stocked with everything our family needs.
Happy Shopping!

We so love our trips to both stores. We have a Sams near us but not a Costco. So we travel there once every few months to stock up.
I love shopping at Costco too, they have great deals on organic!
We have a Sam’s card. I like the larger quantities of thing we use a lot.
We don’t have Costco’s anywhere around us but we do have Sam’s and BJ’s. My favorite things to purchase are meats – and we buy a bunch at a time and freeze it.
Those two seater shopping carts are THE BEST! And I love feeding my family at Sam’s. They are always well behaved while shopping because they know pretzels are at the end!
I like to buy in bulk. It’s nice to know you have the right amount of what you need on hand.
I need to re-new our Costco membership! Bulk shopping is smart and costco has the best fruit. We don’t have a sam’s club though 🙁
We have a Cosco membership that we LOVE! We definitely stack up on snacks there especially when we are traveling. I am so glad I read this, however, because I don’t think to look at meat there. Don’t know why but with that price, I am inspired to check it out!

I go to Sam’s on occasion. It definitely can save you loads of money when you shop in bulk.
We like shopping at Costco but I wish we had more storage for our shopping trips. Hard to stock up on things when we dont have any room.
Oh my goodness you had me at double seats! Those things are so cool!
