It’s Monday again… And it’s the day after Mother’s Day. (Almost Tuesday when I am writing this… But let’s not talk about how late it is.) If you are a mom, I hope your Mother’s Day was fabulous!!! My Mother’s Day consisted of some beautiful flowers, a coupon book from my oldest son, a HILARIOUS mom questionnaire by my second born (scroll down to read more about this), a box of chocolate covered strawberries, and Chinese food. I have to say it was a very nice day.
Monday afternoons inspire me to confess things. I don’t know if it is the letdown from the busy weekend, or the fact that my laundry pile always seems to be mocking me more on Mondays…. But I feel the need to bare my soul with you, my lovely friend. And so… I shall.
I smell like Cinnamon
Apparently, this is a true thing. My five year old came home from school with a mom questionnaire. You know. The ones where the teachers ask the kids a bunch of questions about their mom and then they write down their EXACT answers. According to Jimmy:
- I am 15.
- I say, “Go to your room and play in your room.” ALL the time
- My job is to watch his sisters.
- I wear “summer clothes”
- When I am with my friends I am going to “Places to put my make up on!”
- I smell like Cinnamon.
I snorted my coffee when I read this Facts about my Mom sheet he brought home. I do have to say that I am pretty happy about smelling like cinnamon. Must be because I make cinnamon rolls and cookies with cinnamon in them…. And Jimmy LOVES to eat!
I make a LOT of Tacos
The running joke between my husband and I when he asks me what for dinner is, “Tacos.”
Seriously. I make them at least once a week. I try my VERY hardest to go at least 5 days before having tacos again for dinner. But it is hard people! Tacos are just so good. And easy. And last minute… And I usually have all of the ingredients needed for taco night in my fridge and pantry.
Who can blame me for making tacos so often? Mexican food is the best! Embrace it. Eat it. Devour it!
Oh… What’s for dinner tomorrow??? TACOS.
I prefer Silence over Music at the moment
I love music. I love to sing. I play (ahem…or used to play….) the flute, ukulele, and piano. Big band/swing music is kinda my jam. Micheal Buble’ is usually blasting quite loudly while I am cleaning. Ben Rector is a new favorite for when I am sitting outside with the husband watching the kids play in the yard.
But right now… I am just loving SILENCE! No. They are not a new band. Just quiet. No squealing, crying, tattling, crashing, laughing, hysterical, craziness…. just silence. (Except for the whirr of the dishwasher and jingle of the dryer bell.)
I don’t want music or a podcast or tv show as background noise. I want to fold my 106 baskets of laundry in deathly silence. I prefer to wash the dishes with quiet. I choose to exist in peace and quiet serenity when my children are in bed…hopefully, fingers crossed, taking a nap and NOT taking off their diapers and emptying their drawers.
I drink my coffee with cream AND sugar
Yes. I KNOW you were dying to know this fact. Now you know. And now you can bring me coffee. (I am just saying… you could…)
I HATE choosing where to go or eat
I literally had a mini melt down on Mother’s Day over choosing where to go for lunch.
I KNOW! It’s not that hard to choose a place to plop your butt down and eat. But for some reason, choosing where to eat has always been this extreme, overwhelming difficult decision for me.
Best gift for me is to tell me about an amazing restaurant that serves the most delicious food and then take me there! Done. Easy. So yummy. No high blood pressure.
I actually DON’T “Do it all”
Someone recently expressed to me how they didn’t know how I “Do it all.” You know. Have six kids. Keep them alive. Feed them. Make the husband happy. Write amazing articles…. Ahem.
So here is my confession: I DON’T do it all.
In fact, I am sitting in a room with no less than 5 shoes with no matching mates are strewn across the floor, there are 7 random to men. 2 ripped books, a ball, a Frozen purse, and a toy phone (of which the batteries have thankfully FINALLY died! Don’t know if I could have handled another day of that ringtone.) and a Mickey Mouse stuffed doll that I am sure no longer has a tail.
And I do not care.
I mean… I do care. I do want a clean house. I don’t want to step on little army men when I get up.
But I also care about my sanity. And I know that I will work until 1 am cleaning tonight to put the house in complete order and cleanliness like I really want it to be. But then I will have to do it again tomorrow. The same toys, more or less, will be on the floor with the same shoes…
So I choose to be okay with it. I choose to spend time with my kids on the floor eating popcorn and jump up for an impromptu dance party. And I don’t do it all.
I have the MOST fabulous readers!
This is true. It is known! You all are the best!
I am seriously so blessed that you want to read the words coming out of my fingers (from my brain).

Every comment is special to me.

My mom confession? I never did it all either. My house was never clean till the kids left home. I only recently started cooking things that didn’t come out of a box. And if I got the $100 gift card, I would spend it on myself and not the kids. LOL. Just don’t tell them.
