Whomever coined the phrase, “Slept like a baby.” CLEARLY has never HAD a baby!!!!
We are six kids into parenting, and I am telling you, you just learn to live with disrupted sleep. I waited and waited for the day my first born would Sleep thru the night. That day remained elusive until… Yep, I had ANOTHER baby! And then, the cycle continued on until this day. And just because they are no longer infants, it doesn’t guarantee that they will be sleeping through the night. Nope. Not at all!
The house we are currently in has all of the bedrooms on the second level. It’s a rather old house and the walls are thin. No baby monitors needed to hear the crying child awake in the night. Figuring out which child is crying… is another story! I’m quite sure you would find me quite hysterical to watch as I stumble around the hallway trying to figure out which kid is awake and where they are. I have a sleep walker, one with night terrors, one with breathing problems, one who is a lite sleeper, one who has frequent tummy issues and then the normal “Pee’d thru my diaper” problems.
Would you allow me to cry a bit and tell you about the night a few weeks ago when EVERY. SINGLE. CHILD. woke up in the middle of the night??? It took a minimum of 4 cups of coffee to recover from that one!
After that night I decided to create an Emergency Nighttime Basket to keep me from stumbling around half asleep looking for essentials to get kids back in bed and peacefully asleep again!
The first thing I did was switch diapers. I am DONE with pee’d thru diapers! The twins are the worst at this! And they can’t stand to be wet. There is a reason why Huggies OverNites Diapers are the #1 selling nighttime diapers! They are the best I have found at keeping my girls asleep the entire night with no leaks. The wick away layer is what keeps them from feeling wet. Plus, the fit around their chubby little thighs is nice and snug.
Rocking my babies to sleep is precious moments to be had..even if I am really tired the next day. Those moments spent holding my babies is worth ever missed minute of sleep.
Keeping everything I need to take care of nighttime emergencies in one spot REALLY helps me! I don’t know about you, but trying to find clean sheets, diapers, medicine or any other essential half asleep, in the dark, with a crying baby is quite difficult. I wish I had had this brilliant idea with my first born!
To create an Emergency Nighttime Basket for your home and a better nights sleep for everyone (especially you, mamma!) grab a basket or tub and add your essentials.
Here is what is in my emergency basket:
- Extra Sheets (for easy bed changing)
- Blankets
- Huggies Natural Care Wipes (Our favorite wipes! Gentle on skin, but strong enough to clean up messes with few wipes!)
- Natural Cough medicine (for cold season coughs)
- Infant Pain reliever (for teething babies and sudden fevers)
- Extra pajamas
- Huggies OverNites Diapers
The Emergency Nighttime Basket has been a huge help to me! I am sure that I will continue to add more essentials to the basket, but for now, it has helped get the babies back in bed and asleep quickly. Which is a WIN for this mamma! The more sleep I get, the better a mom I am!
What would you add to my Emergency Nighttime Basket?
Happy Sleeping!

It’s smart to have everything handy so you can access it easily in the middle of the night. I always did the same thing when mine were little.

It has been so long ago I forget what this felt like. Having my babies in my bed was huge help though!
