It’s that time of year when we moms really stress out. There is so much pressure on us to be perfect and to create elaborate, magical displays of ornate Christmas decorations, bake delicious and festive foods, and attend every party, event and program that one can possibly squeeze into a month. And honestly, it’s a bit overwhelming.
I have six beautiful children. I want very much to make this Christmas (and every Christmas following) a most wonderful holiday. The BEST that that could ever imagine. But I don’t think I will make Christmas very magical by putting extreme pressure on myself or allowing them to have outrageous expectations for the holidays every year.
Let’s face it… the children are just going to get older and the holiday party list will grow longer and the wish lists more expensive.
This weekend, I FINALLY brought all the Christmas decorations into the house (ahem… I mean, MY HUSBAND brought the decorations into the house!) I felt a bit frazzled as the kids immediately swarmed me and the boxes in chaos!
Bless their hearts! They get so excited about everything. And this mommy just couldn’t handle.
I put on Holiday Movie and decided I needed to have a cup of Bulletproof Coffee to get my head clear and ready for the task of decorating with six little, curious children at my feet.
I have recently discovered Bulletproof Coffee. Bulletproof Coffee is Upgraded Coffee blended with grass-fed unsalted butter & Brain Octane Oil. It is low toxin, high performance & full of healthy fats to fuel you. Starter kits are a cool way to test out Bulletproof Coffee & see if it is for you – get yours at http://bulletproof.com
I know… You are wondering about the taste. I will admit I was skeptical. You know my obsession with coffee runs deep. I am a true fanatic.
After trying my first cup of Bulletproof Coffee, I could not believe the difference! It is low toxin, high performance and full of healthy fats that fuel this momma in a way that I can barely describe! It tastes delicious. I started out with small amounts of Brain Octane Oil and worked up to the recommended amount.
I have no crash after a cup of Bulletproof Coffee. It was the best choice for me the morning I decided to decorate. I needed as much fuel as possible to tackle my task of making our home ready for the holidays!
While I drank my cup of Bulletproof Coffee I observed my children watching the holiday movie I grew up on. I pondered what I wanted Christmas to be like for them. I want so badly to make the holidays amazing. They are still young, what kind of expectations to I want them to have every year for the holidays?
I am like you. I want to give my kids everything I possibly can! They are my world.
But… I’ve decided this year I am focusing in. I am setting the Christmas standard for every year to come. No matter what my budget… No matter what life brings… I want to teach my children to expect Christmas to be quite wonderful every year.
These are the things I want my kids to expect to get every Christmas.
MAGICAL DECORATIONS
A few strand of white lights, glittery, plastic, red balls, a few spray painted pinecones, and ribbon is all you need to set your home aglow with magic. My favorite thing to do when I was a little girl was lay under the christmas tree and stare up through the tree at all the lights peeking through the pine needles. I could have laid there for hours, it was so magical. I didn’t purchase one new decoration for the Christmas this year. We lost half our decorations last year in a basement flood, but what we had left was absolutely enough to add little touches of red, gold and sparkle. The kids all squealed when we turned off all the lights and did the dramatic turning on of the Christmas lights!
SIMPLE MOMENTS OF FAMILY TIME AND TRADITION
Since Jayden was a toddler we have taken a picture of one of the kids on daddy’s shoulders putting the star on the tree. This year we have two small trees. It was almost a fight when they realized only two were going to be able to put the star on the tree! But we were able to make it a fun family moment and the boys chose among themselves to let Jordan and Justin do the stars this year.
I LOVE so much that this is our first Christmas with our officially adopted Justin, Jada, & Jazzy. It is so special to see their sweet faces light up at every simple hug, tickle and kiss. I never want to let go of that.
CHRISTMAS MUSIC & MOVIES
What is Christmas without holiday music and classic movies that still make me tear up?! It doesn’t cost anything to blast our Christmas music throughout and dance to White Christmas, Jingle Bell Rock and all the other favorites. Turning off all the lights, lighting a fire in the fireplace and snuggling under blankets on our couch to watch a movie is just about the best thing in the world!
COOKIES
I happen to adore cooking. I don’t know if you have noticed around this blog…But I think food is amazing! I want my kids to expect lots of yummy cookies at Christmas. They may not be made completely from scratch. They may not be Pinterest worthy. But they will be delicious and I will be more than willing to whip up another batch as soon as possible!
A HAPPY MOMMY
What I want most of all for my children to expect every year is a happy mom. I have to admit to you that while decorating this year I wasn’t ahem “Happy” about my girls tangling up my ribbon or the boys stepping on a string of lights while trying to “help.”
I know that I can’t get everything on the Christmas wish lists and we have to replace a vehicle this month and there is a list of other things on the “I may be stressed about this…” list. But when I stop and look at my children trying so hard to gather in front of the tree for a picture I can’t help but laugh hysterically inside and then tear up all in the same moment because they are my crazies.
I am the MOST blessed woman in the world! I have the most adorable, most stubborn, most silliest, most amazing children in the world! And I can be happy. Happy with the fact that we are together and we have each other.
This year I am setting the bar HIGH. I am letting my children know that every Christmas to come can be just like this one.
Every year they can expect Christmas to be Magical. Simple. And full of Love.
Happy Christmas,
Keikilani
