We are small business owners and have SIX children in our home. Unfortunately, NONE of my children like to sleep in. Not a single one! I am lucky if they sleep past 6 am. I have to admit sometimes breakfast is a little chaotic. I am in desperate need to streamline my mornings. Not only to take care of my six kids, but to take care of myself.
A cup of coffee can’t cut it any more. I am eliminating my excuses with a little bit of easy prep work. I am making a new resolution to prep a little for a lot of success! In the kitchen, in laundry, in routines, and in every area of life, I am looking for ways to implement this new resolution to do a little prep for a lot of success. I am starting off the year with purpose and a plan. They aren’t huge, ridiculous resolutions. Just manageable steps, like prepping for Build-your-own Breakfast Parfaits with Post Cereals Great Grains, to make my new year the most amazing for not just me, but my entire family. I am kick-starting the year well by kick-starting my day with a nutritious breakfast for myself and my family.
When I tell you breakfast needs to be simple, filling, and nutritious I am NOT kidding! The importance of breakfast cannot be overstated. When my children and I have a good breakfast our whole day flows a lot smoother.
We love Post Cereal for a great breakfast that contains fiber that prepares your body for the day and keeps you full until lunch. And they have whole grains that are packed with nutrients, including protein, fiber, B vitamins and antioxidants. Plus there are plenty of delicious options to choose from. I always stock up on our family favorites while at Walmart. Our current favorites are Great Grains (with 36 grams of whole grain per serving & 20% of your daily value for fiber), Honey Bunches of Oats Honey Roasted (An awesome combination of textures and flavors that my kids love! It’s also incredibly heart healthy with 0 grams of trans fat, saturated fat.) & Grape Nuts (A morning staple, and has been for over 100 years.).
Build-your-own Kid Breakfast Parfaits are a delicious and fun breakfast! With a little prep work on Sunday the ingredients for these Build-your-own kid breakfast parfaits will be your new favorite breakfast. Containers of diced fruit, yogurt, nuts, chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and cereal are laid out on the counter. Each child can build their own parfait for breakfast. The kids love having the ability to choose, I love that they are learning to help themselves, and Big Bonus… I LOVE them too!
BREAKFAST PARFAIT INGREDIENTS:
- Post Cereals Great Grains (Banana Nut Crunch) or other favorite Post Cereals
- Yogurt
- Strawberries
- Blackberries
- Bananas
- Chocolate Chips
- Shredded Coconut
- Nuts
I let each child choose what will be in their parfait. The older children help gather all of the ingredients and they love building their own parfaits. The younger children pretty much boss me around… Ha! But they love that I let them have control over their breakfast.
These parfaits are so customizable. You can vary ingredients to whatever is in your pantry/fridge or favorite of the family.

Giving kids choices and allowing them to make their own breakfast is always fun. You know that they are healthy but they are just having a good time eating food they like.

I do this with Post Grape-Nuts sometimes. It is one of our family favorites and I love that it’s non-GMO, too! When paired with some nice greek yogurt, you’ve got a high protein, high fiber breakfast to keep you going all day.

We switch it up and use Post Grape-Nuts too!

Wow 6 kids! I can barely please my 2 with breakfast selections, haha. Building Your Own Parfait is a great way to get kids involved in the kitchen and this way they can make exactly what they want and how they want it.
