I believe very strongly that our children should be outside as much as possible! I love these 9 Free Things to do OUTSIDE this Summer with the kids.
Not only is it good for their health and learning development, it also wears them out so they will GO TO SLEEP!
Several times this summer we have packed up the cooler with a picnic lunch or snacks like Dannon® Danimals® Yogurt Smoothies Strawberry Explosion® and spent most of the day in the sun making the best memories.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have an epic summer of fun. In fact, here are 9 FREE Things you can do Outside this Summer!
Go Swimming
Lake, or Beach, or Pool. Choose whichever is closest to you or do a different destination every day! Summers were meant to be spent in the water.
We beat the Texas heat with lots of water time.
Walk the Dogs to a Park
If you have dogs in your family, take a walk with the whole family to the neighborhood park! Give the dogs exercise and you and the kids will get in extra sunshine too!
Have a Picnic or Snacktime outside
One of my favorite things to do is eat outside with the family during the summer! We will have our entire meal outside or just snacks.
I stock up on on Danimal Yogurt Smoothies whenever I am at Walmart. They are super easy to toss in a cooler with some fruit for snacking on the go. Plus, the kids LOVE them!
Play Football or Kickball as a family
My kids will take any excuse to play tackle football with their daddy. The older boys are really starting to develop a solid throwing arm. I love watching them play and pretend they are real football players!
Have a Neighborhood Dart Gun Battle
This is my oldest sons favorite thing to do! He is dart gun obsessed and often develops fort strategies and attack plans. Everyone brings their own gun and I provide the bullets and snacks!
Go Fishing
Don’t let your fishing pools sit in the garage collecting dust all summer! Even if you only catch a two inch fish, you will have an epic day of fishing!
Fly a Kite
We bought the cheapest $2 kites a year or two ago and they have lasted forever! On a nice windy day, pull out the kites and let the kids experience the wonder of flying a kite. It’s really quite magical.
Plant a Garden
Let the kids experience digging in the dirt and watching plants grow. Vegetables are not difficult to grow! If you don’t have much of a backyard, plant some veggies in a pot and let the kids water and care for it.
Play in your own Backyard!!!!
If you have a yard to call your own, take advantage of it! Don’t miss out on what you have already invested in! We have a sandbox, a play fort and slide in our backyard. It’s as simple as stepping outside to play.
Some of my favorite memories with my children this summer are ones made right in our own yard! The kids don’t need elaborate and expensive trips to get the most out of summer. Sunshine, grass, and snacks, of course, is all it takes to make the best memories!
Happy SUMMER!

I remember when we didn’t really have to think of things to do outside. We just went out and played. My favorite was going to the playground with the family and taking a picnic and flying a kite.

I like your ideas! I think working on a garden as a family could be super rewarding. That’s something we’ve never done.

Don’t forget to hit up your local parks! Our city has some really nice ones that I wish we’d take advantage of more.
