We all want to start our year fresh and with purpose! Here are 5 things I think every mom should do at the beginning of a new year to set herself up for success!
The holidays have come and gone and it was a whirlwind of activities, family, food, and lots and lots of memories! But now it’s time for back to reality!
2018 is here and I am ready to hit the ground running in the new year. However, I know from experience that it is essential to take time for a few simple steps to set myself up for success this year.
Every year in January I like to hit the reset button to get myself as a mom, and my family. Speaking from experience, I know that these little things that I do as mom will really make a difference over the next few months.
Get yourself a shiny new Planner!
I am obsessed with a pretty planner. But more importantly is having a calendar and/or planner that you will actually use! A planner makes a huge difference in being organized as a mom. I have several that I have used and loved and totally recommend in this post.
It’s not just for important dates and appointments. It also houses my To-Do lists and keeps me on track for the entire day. I love marking things off my list!
Take Vitamins Everyday
I always fall off the vitamin bandwagon. It’s one of those things that usually falls to the bottom of the priority list. But this year, I am starting a new routine and putting a reminder in my phone to take my vitamins at breakfast. I know this will make such a difference in my body.
Drink More Water
Even though I drink mostly water throughout the day. (That and coffee!) I know I can up my intake. I am doubling my water intake right at the start of the new year with the goal of increasing throughout the year.
I am also encouraging my kids to drink more water too! I discovered that if I give myself and the kids a straw in our cups we will drink twice as much water! I am not sure what it is about a straw… But it works!
Stock up on Essentials
The holidays cleaned my stock pile OUT! With the extra company and kids home for Christmas break we went through almost all the food in the pantry and my stash of toilet paper and the tissues were gone!!!
This week we needed to get out of the house so we all went to Walmart to stock up. Jayden was too cool and kept his glasses on the entire time! Crazy kid!
Re-Establish Good Routines
The holidays completely undid all of our routines. We still aren’t in school yet, but it’s time to re-establish those good routines that keep our house running as smoothly as possible.
It’s back to normal bedtimes, healthy breakfasts and as much outdoor activity as possible! I have noticed all of my kids struggling just a bit from being out of routine. I know that they are as ready as I am to get back into the groove that keeps everyone happy and healthy.
I firmly believe that it’s the little things that set us up for success. Little changes and routines that give us moms the energy and resources to keep up with the chaos of motherhood.
Here’s to an awesome 2018!
Happy New Year!
Keikilani
A planner is definitely on my list of items to pick up! Of course I was hoping to grab it before the New Year LOL.
I am a pen and paper kind of person with my schedule so I always need to get a new calendar. I am also trying to drink more water, I find refilling and keeping a cold water bottle in the fridge ready for me to grab and drink encourages me to drink more.
Love this post! I would add making sure mom squeees in time to take care of mom! We just picked up a gym membership and I have scheduled my workouts for the next 6 weeks so they are written in stone! When I take care of me it’s easiwr to take care of them 😉
Great tips. I agree getting back into a routine is a definite must. It is so hard after no alarm for 2 weeks.
Love this! I’m always excited for my new planner and we just renewed a Sam’s Club Membership so we’re on a roll!
Very important for all mommies! I’ll have to keep this in mind for the future when I have kids. Even though I’m not a mom, I still like to start my year with a new planner!
I have upped my water intake like crazy. It’s easy to not drink as much when it’s colder.
I think moms and everyone needs to take godo care or their selves. Having a planner is a good idea too. Kleenex has been always our preferred brand at home for years.
