Jon and I are not big on giving gifts to each other for birthdays and holidays. We prefer spending time with each other, relaxing, exploring somewhere new, and eating really good food with just the two of us. A birthday staycation at the Royal Sonesta was the PERFECT way to celebrate Jon’s birthday over a weekend.
This is not our first stay at the Royal Sonesta and it most certainly will not be the last! Royal Sonesta actually has hotels all over the country and the world. I have been following them on social media and sometimes it causes a serious wanderlust!
Staycations are all about relaxing and I love the comfortable rooms and bed the hotel offers. When you walk into the hotel you immediately feel the grander of the hotel, but also the comfort and easy atmosphere.
The Axis Lounge has a really great happy hour where you can order cocktails and light bites, relax in their intimate seating areas and enjoy conversations. We missed eating at ARA for dinner this time, but I promise it’s amazing food & service.
Our room was beautiful, clean, and full of natural light. But also able to equipped with blockout curtains to keep that sun away as long as possible for sleeping in on a morning you don’t have to get up with 6,000 children!
As you can see the bed was rather comfy and even though it was Jon’s birthday, he brought me coffee in bed. I won when I married this guy!
They also delivered a welcome treat for us to celebrate Jon’s birthday and had personalized notecards on the desk for me.
One of our secrets for saving money on staycations and for maximizing the amount of food we can try is finding happy hours or bar bite menus that serve food. Sometimes the same food you order inside the main part of the restaurant is 3 times as much as the menu on the patio or in the bar. We didn’t intend to, but our cuisine was almost entirely seafood. We ordered a total of 7 appetizers at 2 restaurants and only one wasn’t seafood! It was so fun trying things I don’t normally make at home.
We slept in and debated getting out of bed, but having had their amazing breakfast during our last stay, I knew it was worth getting up for. Breakfast is one of my favorite meals and they do NOT disappoint with their hot breakfast buffet.
I love that we had 24 hrs of a quick getaway for just the two of us. Celebrating my best friend and connecting as a couple is always worth the time. Already planning what we can celebrate next for another staycation!
If you are planning a birthday staycation in Houston or need a night away, book a room at the Royal Sonesta for a night or two. So worth it!
That looks like a great way to spend a birthday to me! I think I should take a little staycation for my next birthday!
