The countdown for back to school is ON!!! We are just days away from school starting up again and I have been busy shopping for school supplies, clothing, shoes, and all the things six kids need to get ready for back to school.
Having six kids to shop for makes my bank account tremble in fear! But to keep my bank account from having to go to therapy, every year I go through the kids shoes, clothes, socks, underwear and other essentials and evaluate what they really need before going to the store. We also set a budget that can wiggle slightly depending on what items they need.
Last year, I discovered Burkes Outlet and was blown away by their prices. I told you about my office makeover on a budget, the summer fun finds, and now I am going to share all the amazing deals I found for the kids for back to school shopping on a budget.
Make sure you write down your children’s sizes before leaving the house. If you have multiple children like I do, you may have a hard time recalling what sizes they are. Obviously, the twin girls are the same size and share their clothes, but I also have “Involuntary Twin” boys (six weeks apart due to our adoption) that are also approximately the same size. So they can share most of their clothes as well.
Backpacks & Lunchboxes.
Burkes Outlet had 3 racks of backpacks and lunchboxes. They had brand names, character backpacks, and lunchbox sets. All for under $20. In fact, the Fortnite backpack I bought Jordan was only $15! I saw the same one online for $29.99! That’s 50% off people!
Underwear & Socks
Underwear and socks get a lot of abuse in our home. All four boys can wear the same size socks. We have a community sock bin in our backpack closet that houses all boys socks. I can’t tell you how many socks with holes I threw away last week. It was impressive.
Since I don’t want to be washing laundry for just underwear and socks I tend to buy just a little more than necessary to keep their supply stocked all week long.
One of the great finds for saving big money at Burkes Outlet is their outfit sets for kids. While they do have larger sizes, you will find a lot of sets in size 7 and under. They boys are a 7 and the girls are in a 6.
The sets I found ranged from $5.99 – $11.99. But it wasn’t just one piece of clothing I was getting. It was a full outfit; a pair of shorts with two shirts; two shirts, a skirt, & shorts. All kinds of outfit combos that is a ridiculous deal.
The bonus is the kids already have a matching outfit and less chance of walking downstairs in mismatched clothes that makes mommy look bad!
T-Shirts & Pants
Most of the shirts on the racks at Burkes Outlet were under $5! I found several character shirts like Pikachu, Batman, & Captain America that my kids love.
I also look for dark colored pants and shorts that hide the stains that are inevitable from my very active children.
I keep shoes to a minimum at our house. A solid pair of tennis shoes is required for everyone in the family. I try to stagger when we purchase new shoes for the kids so I am not purchasing 6 pairs at once. The boys got new tennis shoes at the beginning of the summer, so they are set for the beginning of school.
The girls however, have beat up their tennis shoes all summer and the previous school year, so they were ready for new tennis shoes. I found them Sketcher shoes that are a great brand and cute!
I also used our wiggle room in the budget to buy them some nude slides. They were under $10, so I could not resist a fun shoe for them to wear with their LlamaCorn outfits I found!
If you still have back to school shopping to do for the kids (or even yourself) you will be sure to stick to your budget and find brand names & great quality deals for everything you need at Burke’s Outlet.
